Dean’s Message

The goal of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) is to cultivate
excellent dentist, researcher or educator with advanced knowledge, modern
technique and a global mind. We get together to seek better achievement for
oral health and collaborate internationally to enhance our abilities.
There are currently two institutes in the College of Dentistry. One is the
Department of Dentistry, which is composed of undergraduate (DDS), and
graduate courses which include Master of dentistry and PhD programs. The
other one is Institute of Oral Biology, which also includes Master of Science
and PhD programs. The students in the institute of oral biology are equipped
with dental knowledge and have research abilities in such fields as oncology,
biochemistry, biomechanical engineering, and material science, while all
students of Department of Dentistry have expertise in basic or clinic dentistry.
Most of the faculties in College of Dentistry have overseas study experience.
They have either achieved PhD degree in North America and Europe or
received special training program abroad. Since NYCU is research-oriented,
the College of Dentistry is equipped with advanced research facilities. Digital
Dentistry is the future trend of clinical dentistry. Students in the College of
Dentistry are educated to be familiar with advanced digital technology.
Several further education courses of digital dentistry are open to the clinicians
from both domestic and abroad.
The third institute of our college, Institute of Oral Tissue Engineering and
Biomaterials, will be opened in fall semester 2022. The master program
students in this institute are expected to be trained qualified for future
engagement into dental sciences and dental industries.
The College of Dentistry in NYCU lays strong emphasis on international
exchange. We have sister-link agreement interns of MoU with more than forty
schools of dentistry global-wide. We believe that by means of this
international linkage, we can enrich the inspiration and innovation in scientific
information and advance the clinical skill, which will help both societies in the
oral heath improvement, especially for a geriatric society facing the challenge
of the so-called Silver Tsunami.
College of Dentistry in NYCU possesses a leading position in the dental
education and dental research not only at home but also in the Asia Pacific
Region. We are willing to share our experiences in dental education with
every school of dentistry across the nations to improve the dental education
for future needs.
